Sport fan Joyce ‘Mama Joy’ Chauke has made it clear that she’s not turning her back on football now that she has thrown her support behind champion boxer Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe.

Chauke is now the number one fan of Hadebe, who is the current South African and African Boxing Union (ABU) female flyweight champion.

“A while ago, I promised Smash that I was gonna support her when she’s fighting. You know it’s been difficult to support boxing because it’s an individual sport. In the past we used to support Dingaan Thobela,” Chauke said.

“We don’t have boxing tournaments all the time. So supporting Smash doesn’t mean I will stop supporting football. What will happen is that I won’t go to football matches when Smash is fighting. I will go support her.”

Meanwhile, Hadebe is preparing for her next fight, which is going to be against Mexica boxer Gabriela ‘La Bonnita’ Sanchez Saavedra.

This vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental female flyweight title fight is going to be held at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre in Johannesburg on Friday, 24 May.
