Aggrieved chairperson of the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) Ayanda Matiti has described Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa as a playful and reckless person.

East London-based Matiti was responding following Kodwa’s appointment of a Boxing South Africa (BSA) board on Tuesday last week.

Speaking on Radio 2000’s Game On show on Wednesday evening, Matiti said:”We have not been consulted again by the Minister. We were not invited as the association in that stakholders consultation. We think that the Minister is very playful. He’s not only playful, but is reckless.”

Matiti added:”Definitely, we are going back to court, that’s the bottom line. But the approach is different because we want to go back to court and engage the Minister alone. Remember, the Minister has announced his board and disregarded the Act that gives rise to all of us. We are protecting the Act and also fighting for our rights.

“We are taking to court the Minister for the process he has undertaken to be a subject of review and to be set aside. We are not going to interdict the board because the board has not appointed itself, has been appointed by the Minister. Now that there’s a board it doesn’t matter for the purposes of boxing how it emerged. We note that there’s a board and it must do its work.”

Meanwhile, the seven-member BSA board is led by its chairperson Sifiso Shongwe who works with Dr Koketso Tsebe, Luxolo September, Sakhiwe Sodo, Nande Mheshe, Romy Titus and Dr Luvuyo Bayeni.
