American Brian Norman Junior successfully defended his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight title with a fifth round knockout of Japanese boxer Jin Sasaki at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday.
The American stretched his record to 28 wins with 22 knockouts. On the other hand, Sasaki dropped to 19 wins with 17 stoppages, two losses and a draw.
Norman Jr dropped Sasaki twice in the first round and then ended the fight in the fifth as the Japanese was stretchered out of the ring.
Meanwhile, Thai boxer Thanongsak Simsri won the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title following a split decision victory over Christian Araneta from the Philippines.
Araneta scored a knockdown in the third round, but it wasn’t enough to let the judges give him the nod.
