It looks like the vacant South African junior-welterweight title fight is jinxed as the clash between Aphiwe Boyiya and Sibusiso Zingange has since been postponed.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, 26 July, at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, the fight has now been postponed to September. The postponement followed after fight promoter Joyce Kungwane from TLB Boxing Promotions was told by Emperors Palace bosses that the venue was no longer available.

“I decided to postpone the tournament after I received a message from the Emperors Palace bosses about the unavailability of the venue. I have since written to Boxing South Africa (BSA) informing them about the latest developments. I will probable do the tournament in September,” Kungwane said.

There was relief from the Boyiya and Zingange camps after Boxing South Africa (BSA) approved their fight last week. They will now have to wait another two months before the fight takes place.

Meanwhile, the SA junior-welterweight title was relinquished by Ntethelelo Nkosi in March as he chose to pursue glory in the WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Boyiya was due to fight for the title against Sipho Mahlangu in May, but the bout didn’t go ahead after Zingange’s handlers fought against it being staged as he’s rated number two in South Africa. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
