In just a matter of a year, things have changed considerably for Siyakholwa Kuse as the whole focus of the boxing fraternity is on him with his fight against Melvin Jerusalemfrom the Philippines approaching.

Around this time last year, Kuse was sweating buckets, preparing to face against another Filipino opponent Samuel Salva whom he defeated at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

Now Kuse will be making a second attempt at dethroning Jerusalem, the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight champion, when they meet in a rematch at the Kempton Park venue this coming Saturday.

“This is a very big week for Siya. Obviously, a very important final week for him to get ready for the fight,” Kuse’s manager Brian Mitchell remarked.

And in a bid to make sure that nothing distracts the Mdantsane-born former SA and African Boxing Union (ABU) minimumweight titlist, Kuse has been lodging at Emperors Palace’s Metcourt.

“He’s spending the last week at Emperors Palace. He’s ready for the big fight. He does understand that the whole of South Africa is behind him. I’m confident that Siya is going to win the fight,” Mitchell concluded.

Kuse fought very well during his first fight against Jerusalem in Manila last October. However, he faded a little in the last three rounds of the bout something which cost him the fight. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
