Manny Fernandes is quite satisfied with the progress in Charlton ‘Baby Pain’ Malajika’s preparations as he’s preparing for next month’s fight against Zambian boxer David Mwale away in Zambia.

This World Boxing Council (WBC) International bantamweight title contest between Malajika and the unbeaten Zambian was due to have taken place last December. However, it got postponed after Malajika tore ligaments in his knee while he was preparing to face off against the Zambian.

And that was going to be the fourth time Malajika, who is the younger brother to WBC junior-bantamweight title contender Ricardo Malajika, fought last year.

“We got a big task. We got to go to the guy’s backyard and win the title. Charlton has put his mind to it. Thank goodness, the injury seems to have healed properly now,” Fernandes said.

The IBO International bantamweight champion registered wins over Gcina Makhoba from KwaZulu-Natal as well as Filipino boxers RV Deniega and Froilan Saludar last year. Malajika has collected nine wins with four knockouts and a loss.

On the other hand, the 27-year-old Mwale, a southpaw from the capital Lusaka, has won all his 12 fights with half of those victories coming from stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
