Mamelodi Sundowns returnee, Cassius Mailula, netted the Brazilians’ winning goal as the Tshwane giants marched to MTN8 semi-finals following a 3-2 win over Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria on Saturday evening.
With the match seeming to be heading to penalties as the two sides were tied at 2-2, Mailula, whose return to the Brazilians was confirmed on Saturday, netted in the 113th minute much to the delight of their fans.
The visitors had shocked Sundowns when they took the lead inside the first 10 minutes of the match through Bonginkosi Dlamini’s seventh minute goal. Eight minutes later, Sundowns equalised through Teboho Mokoena before they led for the first time after Antonio van Wyk scored in the 31st minute.
Rise and Shine didn’t give up despite trailing and their efforts were rewarded when Tidimalo Molokwane equalised 15 minutes into the second half.
