After representing his country, Argentina, in more than 200 matches, world superstar, Lionel Messi, announced his retirement from international football on Monday.
The 39-year-old Messi, who was born in Rosario, Argentina, retired from international football having led the White and Sky Blue to numerous victories.
He won the 2022 FIFA World tournament with Argentina, two Copa América trophies, one Finalissima, two World Cup silver medals in 2014 and 2026. He bagged the Golden Ball in both the 2014 and 2022 World Cup tournaments.
“I leave with the peace and pride of having given you, along with my teammates, dream like moments. It was incredible to have experienced it with you all. I love you,” Messi said.
Having worn the Argentina senior national team jersey in 207 matches, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain star scored 125 goals and had 68 assists. He featured in six World Cup tournaments, scoring 21 goals in 34 matches.
