Katlego ‘Black Cat’ Khanyisa came to the Eastern Cape with a mission and he accomplished it in style as he stopped Asanda ‘Dynamite’ Gingqi to win the South African junior-lightweight title at Hope Schools in Summerpride, KuGompo City, on Saturday evening.
The unbeaten Khanyisa put up a brilliant performance as he dominated the 33-year-old Gingqi before stopping him in the 10th round. After landing almost every blow, the lad from Tembisa forced fight referee, Allen Matakane, to stop the fight in two minutes and 49 seconds.
Following the win, the 29-year-old Khanyisa stretched his professional record to 12 victories with five knockouts while Gingqi dropped to 16 wins with nine stoppages and three losses.
And after moving up three divisions, Siyabulela Hem became the new SA lightweight champion after he defeated Khaya Busakwe in the main supporting bout.
A right to the chin sent Busakwe to the canvas and fight referee, Lulama Mtya, counted the Soweto-born boxer out. This was Busakwe’s second successive loss having lost to Nigerian boxer, Sikiru Adekunle Shogbesan, in September last year.
Meanwhile, former SA minimumweight and junior-flyweight champion, Siphamandla Baleni, from Mthatha defied his age as he defeated Gcobani Mdeliswa on points.
