Cape Verde beat a 10 men Ethiopia 1-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations tournament opener at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde on Sunday evening.
Ethiopia were reduced to 10 men in the 12th minute when Bayeh Yared was red carded following a foul on Julio Tavares. The referee adjudged Yared to have denied Tavares a clear goal scoring opportunity when he fouled him.
Meanwhile, the Blue Sharks’ goal came from Tavares just as the referee was preparing to blow his whistle for half-time.
