Torrential rains hitting Bloemfontein forced the DStv Premiership match between Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United to be called off before it could even start at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday.
Referee Victor Hlungwani inspected the water-logged pitch and then advised match commissioner Enock Molefe that it would be impossible for the match to go ahead.
“I just got a brief from the referee, the decision is to call the game off. It was not raining when we arrived here at two o’clock. It started raining towards three o’clock. There is no hope of bouncing the ball, no hope of holding off,” Molefe said.
Molefe added that the Mangaung Municipality had advised that more rain is expected in Bloemfontein until Friday.
