It was birds against birds as the Eagles of Mali flew past Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles beating them 1-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations Group match at Stade Municipal de Limbe, Cameroon, on Wednesday afternoon.
After attacking without scoring in the first 45 minutes, the Malians started the second half by taking the game to the Tunisians.
Their efforts were rewarded when Eagles forward Ibrahima Kone netted from the penalty spot in the 48th minute. The penalty came after Tunisian midfielder Ellyes Skhiri handled the ball inside the box.
The Tunisians were also awarded a penalty by match referee Janny Sikwaze after Moussa Djenepo’s handball. But Wahbi Khazri’s penalty was saved by Mali goalkeeper Ibrahim Mounkoro in the 87th minute.
The Mali Eagles were reduced to 10 men after El Bilal Toure was red carded for a foul on Dylan Bronn in the 77th minute.
