Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has somewhat afforded a smile following his team’s 2-1 win over SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Team of Choice avenged last week’s 1-0 loss to Matsatsantsa a Pitori in a Nedbank Cup last-32 match at the same venue. Tuesday’s goals were scored by Friday Samu and Rowan Human while Jesse Donn netted for Matsatsantsa.

“We are happy with the second half. Cup game few days ago, I think we continued where we left it. Second half, we had a sluggish period where we conceded the goal,” Middendorp said.

The German-born former Kaizer Chiefs coach added that his boys did not exert themselves fully despite winning the match.

“We were not 100 percent in aggressiveness in this total willingness to make a result in the end. But in total, a fully deserved win, a good spirit we had in our team,” he said.
