KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng will clash when Sithembiso Maduna and Jeff Magagane collide in Durban on Saturday, 27 February.
A vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) featherweight title is going to be at stake when Maduna from KwaZulu-Natal and Magagane from Gauteng meet in a tournament, which Starline Promotions’ Zandile Malinga has dubbed “Seaside Rumble’’.
The main supporting bout will see current World Boxing Federation (WBF) International junior-bantamweight champion Gcina Makhoba defending his belt against Thulani Gumede.
Makhoba won the title when he defeated Musawenkosi Ndwandwe on a fifth round technical decision in February last year.
‘‘We are looking for a venue at the Durban north area or Durban central on the 27th of February,’’ said Malinga.
Meanwhile, South African middleweight champion Nkululeko Mhlongo will face John Bopape in a 10-rounder.
“This fight has aroused a lot of interest. People want to see if Bopape can stand his own against Mhlongo or Mhlongo will teach Bopape a boxing lesson. This is a non-title fight. It cannot be a title fight because Bopape does not have three middleweight fights as per Boxing South Africa requirements,” Malinga said.
