Thabiso ‘The Rock’ Mchunu from Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal might get another shot at current World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Ilunga ‘Junior’ Makabu’s title.
However, Mchunu still has to go past German-based Armenia-born Noel Gevor Mikaelyan whose real name is Norair Movsesovich Mikaelyan before he could realise his dream of a trilogy with the champion from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Mchunu suffered a split decision loss when he challenged Makabu in the United States earlier this year. This was the 34-year-old Mchunu’s second loss to the Congolese.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Mikaelyan is rated number two by the WBC while Mchunu is one spot down. Mikaelyan defeated France-based Youri Kayembre Kalenga from the DRC to win the WBC Silver cruiserweight title in Latvia three months ago.
