Patrick Mayo is happy after Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos selected his eldest son Khanyisa for a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco.
Khanyisa, who plays for Cape Town City, was drafted into Broos’ 23-man squad, which will play an AFCON qualifier against the Atlas Lions on Thursday, 9 June.
“We are proud and very happy with Khanyisa’s selection. This is wonderful news to us as a family. We wish him all the best. We didn’t expect him to make it to the final 23 because of the calibre of players who were in the preliminary squad,” Mayo Snr said.
Mayo Snr, a former Bay United, Thanda Royal Zulu, Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United and Mthatha Bucks player, played 18 times for Bafana Bafana and scored six goals between 2000 and 2004.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Khanyisa, who was born in Mthatha, was one of the most consistent performers at the Citizens.
