Mamelodi Sundowns won the treble after they beat Marumo Gallants 2-1 in the final of the Nedbank Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng, Rustenburg, on Saturday evening.
Namibian-born goalpoacher Peter Shalulile set the tone when he put the Brazilians ahead in the 35th minute. However, Gallants cancelled the Brazilians’ lead through Sede Dion’s goal in the 75th minute.
The match went to extra time as the two sides were tied at 1-1 after regulation time.
The Tshwane giants won the match and the trophy after Thapelo Morena netted for them in the 119th minute.
The Nedbank Cup trophy is an addition to the MTN8 and DStv Premiership trophies Sundowns annexed this season.
