Veteran boxer Walter ‘Black Mamba’ Dlamini has decided to hang up his gloves following Sunday’s seventh stoppage loss to Mbiya Kanku from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Prior to meeting Kanku, Dlamini hadn’t fought since losing to former South African middleweight champion Nkululeko Mhlongo in October 2019.
Dlamini, who is an erstwhile World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African and SA middleweight titlist, has been in the fistic sport since he was 13 years old.
“I have decided to retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make as boxing is all I have done since I was a child. However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find desire and joy to continue in the sport,” Dlamini, who made his professional debut at 32, said.
In a professional career, which began with a stoppage win over Pfunzo Nduvheni in June 2012, Dlamini registered 17 wins with nine knockouts, eight losses and a draw.
The 42-year-old Dlamini is now planning to impart his boxing knowledge to young kids as he wants to become a trainer.
