Lawyers who represented former world champion Lwandile ‘Angel’ Sityata in his court case against Xaba Boxing Promotions boss Ayanda Matiti are pushing for the assets of the boxing promoter to be attached by the sheriff of the court.

This follows after the East London Regional Court ruled in favour of the erstwhile International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-bantamweight champion in the case he brought against Matiti.

Sityata alleged more than five years ago that Matiti, who’s his former promoter, owed him more than R350 000. As a result, Sityata turned to the court in a bid to recover the money.

“The court ruled in our favour and he was ordered to pay R380 000. He never indicated that he was going to appeal the outcome of the case. In fact, the time to lodge an appeal has passed now. He has to pay now failing which we will attach his assets. We have already sent a warrant of execution to the sheriff of the court,” Loyiso Godongwana from Godongwana, Ngonyama, Pakade Attorneys said.

Award-winning Matiti said when contacted for comment: “I’m going to appeal against the judgment.”

The R380 000 is, according Godongwana, money which Matiti borrowed from the Welkom-born former world champion.

Sityata’s last fight under Matiti was a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) International bantamweight title contest against Filipino boxer Ernesto Saulong in December 2015.
