South Africa’s most successful boxer Hekkie ‘Hexecutioner’ Budler and some members of his team are going to leave South Africa for Mexico on Friday.
Budler is pencilled to fight against Mexican boxer Elwin ‘La Pulga’ Soto in a World Boxing Council (WBC) junior-flyweight elimination bout at Palenque Fex in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on Saturday, 25 June (Sunday, 26 June, South African time).
Mexicali in Baja California is where Soto, a former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-flyweight champion, is based.
The 34-year-old Budler leaves for Mexico on Friday together with his stablemate DeeJay Kriel and assistant trainer Bernie Pailman. Kriel, a former International Boxing Federation (lBF) minimumweight champion, is Budler’s sparring partner.
Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, who is Budler’s trainer, is only going to leave South Africa for Central America on Sunday.
The winner of the Budler-Soto bout is guaranteed a shot at current WBC junior-flyweight champion Kenshiro ‘The Amazing Boy’ Teraji’s title.
The 30-year-old Teraji from Japan stopped his countryman Masamichi Yabuki in the third round during their rematch in March this year. Teraji avenged last September’s 10th round stoppage loss to Yabuki.
