TK Boxing Promotions boss Tshele Kometsi is relieved after a Boxing South Africa (BSA) arbitration tribunal set aside his suspesion on Thursday.
Kometsi sought relief from the tribunal after BSA suspended his promoter’s licence on Monday. The suspension also led to the cancellation of his tournament scheduled for Sunday.
The tournament has since been reinstated and will go ahead on Sunday at the Uncle Tom’s Hall in Orlando West, Soweto.
“On Monday, 13 June 2022, Boxing South Africa informed me and issued a media release announcing that Boxing South Africa had suspended my promoter’s license pending the finalisation of the disciplinary proceedings instituted by Boxing South Africa against me,” Kometsi said in a statement on Friday.
“I did not agree with the suspension of my promoter’s license when I have pleaded not guilty to the charges against me and I have not been found guilty of any wrong doing. I therefore instructed my attorneys to utilise the internal processes of Boxing South Africa to challenge the suspension and protect my rights.”
The BSA arbitration tribunal ruled in favour of the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association (GBPA) chairperson when it sat on Thursday.
“I would like to commend and thank Boxing South Africa for ensuring that my urgent application was dealt with swiftly given the urgency of the matter and the fact that I have a tournament scheduled for 19 June 2022 that was affected by the decision that has now been set aside by the arbitration tribunal of Boxing South Africa,” Kometsi said.
“My greatest concern was disappointing boxers that had prepared for months for this tournament. The disciplinary process against me has not been finalised. Therefore, I have been advised by my attorneys not to make any further comments on this matter out of respect for the process and in order not to prejudice myself or Boxing South Africa.”
