The deadly COVID-19 pandemic has denied boxing followers an opportunity to organise a proper memorial service for the late trainer and promoter Mzimasi ‘Bro Mzi’ Mnguni, who passed away at an East London hospital aged 73 on Saturday.
Owing to the strict COVID-19 protocols, Ubuntu Boxing Fraternity (UBF) has organised a drive-thru memorial service for Mnguni on Wednesday.
The assembly point is going to be near the NU 10 house, which was Mnguni’s first home after he relocated to Mdantsane from Johannesburg more than four decades ago.
Boxing people will assemble at 11h30 with champions from Eyethu Boxing Gym displaying their belts.
A motorcade will then leave for Mnguni’s home in Vincent with the drive-thru memorial service set to start at 14h00.
Meanwhile, two funeral services are going to be held in Gompo, East London, on Saturday and MaZotshweni village, Alice, on Sunday.
Mnguni will then be buried in MaZotshweni, his birthplace, on Sunday.
