Rofhiwa Nemushungwa’s trainer Alan Toweel has confirmed that he has appealed to Boxing South Africa (BSA) against the outcome of his boxer’s fight with Ronald Malindi.
Nemushungwa lost by a split decision when he challenged South African bantamweight champion Malindi at the Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Judges Ben Ncapai and Siya Mani gave Malindi the nod while Simon Mokadi had Nemushungwa winning the bout. Ncapai and Mani scored the fight 115-114 and 117-115 respectively for Malindi with Mokadi scoring it 115-114 for Nemushungwa.
“I have appealed against the outcome of the fight because I believe that my boxer won the title. I have since asked BSA to review the fight,” Toweel revealed.
BSA provincial manager in Mpumalanga Oupa Lubisi has confirmed that Toweel has indeed asked for a review of the fight.
“I can confirm that Alan is appealing against the outcome of the fight. He sent his appeal on Tuesday and I have since forwarded it to our national office,” Lubisi, a former South African junior-featherweight, said.
Malindi had been inactive for more than two years before he met Nemushungwa. His last fight was a win over Lwandile Sityata in March 2020.
