Unbeaten world title contender Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and his team are going to fly out of South Africa for Mexico next weekend.
Nontshinga’s mission will be to capture the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title when he faces Mexican Hector Flores in Hermosillo on Saturday, 3 September (Sunday, 4 September, South African time).
Nontshinga’s trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, the boxer’s father Thembani Gopheni as well as Royal Talent Management’s Siya Zingelwa form part of the team travelling to the Central American country.
“We should be going at the end of next week,” Nathan, the chief trainer at Hot Box Gym in Johannesburg, said.
This is going to be the 23-year-old Nontshinga’s biggest fight of his career as he attempts to bring home the IBF junior-flyweight belt. Nontshinga earned the right to challenge for the IBF title after he outpointed Filipino boxer Christian Araneta in Gqeberha in April last year.
Initially, Nontshinga was set to challenge Nicaraguan Felix Alvarado in Texas, United States, last December. But he couldn’t travel after the Joe Biden regime restricted travelling between South Africa and the US because of COVID-19.
Then the title became vacant after Alvarado relinquished it and moved up to the flyweight division earlier this year.
