Cape Town City collected their first maximum points of the season after they defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Citizens raced to an early lead through Darwin Gonzalez’s goal in the sixth minute. The Venezuelan scored his third goal of the season after he received a cross from Thamsanqa Mkhize.
The Citizens continued to press on and were unlucky not to increase the lead when Njabulo Ngcobo cleared Wayde Lekay’s header off the line with Amakhosi goalkeeper Brandon Petersen well beaten in the 26th minute.
Nathan Idumba Fasika from the Democratic Republic of Congo doubled the Citizens’ lead with his header in the 62nd minute.
As a result of the win, the Citizens moved from the foot of the Premiership standings to 12th position. They have won once, drawn twice and lost three times.
On the other hand, coach Arthur Zwane’s Amakhosi have registered two victories and lost three times this season.
