A season that started badly got worse and has left Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt cursing the 4 August Stadium pitch following a 4-0 thumping by Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club on Sunday.
The Moroccans humiliated Amakhosi at a neutral venue after Chiefs were denied visas to enter Morocco for the CAF Champions League Group C match, which ended up being played in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
“The scoreline does not look well. I thought we had a couple of opportunities ourselves. All in all, we had good opportunities in a difficult pitch. Second half we got better, but it was not to be,” said Hunt.
Chiefs were dealt yet another blow when their captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele was sent off in the dying minutes of the match.
Amakhosi, who are struggling both on the domestic front and continentally, are now going to face Angolan side Petro de Luanda in Johannesburg on Saturday. Chiefs are third on the Group C table with one point from two matches.
