The coach of the South African Under-17 national team Vela Khumalo is happy with his squad ahead of the Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
The source of Khumalo’s happiness is that he is taking to Morocco a team he knows very well.
“If you remember we started this whole thing when we were playing in Malawi. We went to the COSAFA in Malawi and didn’t do well. South Africa hosted and we won the COSAFA,” Khumalo said.
“I had to go to all the regions looking for players. I travelled the length and breadth of the country. We are proud to say we are unearthing talent.”
Amajimbos open the tournament with a clash against Mali on Monday, 15 March, then face Cameroon three days later. They will play their final group stage match against Senegal on Sunday, 21 March.
“It’s a group of death. It’s not going to be easy. These boys will get the exposure going forward,” Khumalo said.
