Orlando Pirates lifted the MTN8 trophy following a 1-0 win over AmaZulu at a packed Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening.
Monnapule Saleng’s goal from a free kick in the 25th minute earned the Buccaneers their second MTN8 trophy in three seasons. Saleng sent in a free kick, which sailed past Usuthu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.
This was the Jose Riveiro-coached Soweto giants’ fourth win in six MTN8 finals while AmaZulu’s search for their first trophy since 1992 continues.
Usuthu last tasted trophy glory when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 in the final of the Coca-Cola Cup under Clive Barker 30 years ago.
