Boxing South Africa (BSA) has cancelled TK Boxing Promotions boss Tshele Kometsi’s registration after he was found guilty of corruption.

In a statement, BSA said Kometsi was charged after the boxing regulatory body conducted a forensic investigation against him.

According to BSA, its disciplinary committee found Kometsi guilty of contravening Section 10(b) of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12of 2004. Kometsi was found not guilty in six of the seven charges.

A special BSA board meeting held on Thursday approved the DC’s sanction and resolved to cancel Kometsi’s registration as a boxing promoter with immediate effect.

The BSA statement also added that Kometsi is not allowed to attend boxing related activities including tournaments.

Kometsi’s troubles started after his bank card was allegedly used by some BSA officers last year something which led to the suspension of the organisation’s former chief financial officer Thabang Moses in February this year for allegedly sending a driver to withdraw R14 000 from the card. Moses resigned from BSA in May.

A four minutes and 48 seconds voice note, which made rounds last September, suggested that after a withdrawal was made, the money was lying around at the BSA offices in Hatfield, Pretoria.

Contacted for comment, Kometsi, who has 10 days to appeal, said: “I’m taking advice and will communicate according once I get advice from my attorney.”
