Spain scored seven goals for the first time in a World Cup match as they massacred Costa Rica 7-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday evening.

The 2010 World Cup champions opened the scoring with Dani Olmo’s goal in the 11th minute and Marco Asensio doubled La Roja’s lead in the 21st minute.

Ferran Torres added the third from the penalty spot in the 31st minute. The Spaniards got the penalty after Oscar Duarte has fouled Jordi Alba inside the box. Torres completed his brace in the 54th minute.

At 18 years and 110 days, Pablo Gavira better known as Gavi became the youngest player to score in a World Cup tournament since 1958 when he made it 5-0 after he volleyed past Costa Rican  goalkeeper Keylor Navas in the 74th minute.

Legendary Brazilian superstar Pele was 17 years and 249 days when he scored for Brazil during the 1958 final against Sweden.

Just as the Costa Ricans thoughts the Spaniards were done, La Roja added two more goals through Carlos Soler in the 89th minute and Alvaro Morata a minute later.
