The Teranga Lions of Senegal roared to a 3-1 win over hosts Qatar in a 2022 FIFA World Cup group stages encounter at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar, on Friday afternoon.
After trying several times, the Teranga Lions finally found the breakthrough when Boulaye Dia netted in the 41st minute following Qatari defender Boualem Khoukhi’s blunder inside the box.
Three minutes into the second half, Famara Diedhiou doubled the Teranga Lions’ lead with a great header.
Ghana-born Mohammed Muntari, who has replaced Hassan Al-Haydos, cut the deficit when he headed past Edouard Mendy to make it 2-1 in the 78th minute.
Just as the Qataris thought they had a chance to equalise, second half substitute Bamba Dieng scored the 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists’ third goal in the 84th minute.
Meanwhile, the Teranga Lions’ win meant the end of the road in the World Cup tournament for the host nation.
