Poland brought Saudi Arabia down to earth beating them 2-0 in a FIFA World Cup group stages match at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, on Saturday afternoon.

Piotr Zielinski gave the Poles the lead when he netted after receiving a pass from his captain Robert Lewandowski in the 39th minute.

Both sides tried to get a goal after the Poles had scored and the Saudis, who stunned Argentina 2-1 in their opening match, were awarded a penalty in the 45th minute.

After consulting with the VAR, match referee Wilton Sampaio awarded the Saudis a penalty following Krystian Bielik’s foul on Saleh Alshehri. Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny saved Feras Albrikan’s penalty.

Lewandowski finally scored a goal in a World Cup tournament as he made it 2-0 following an Abdulelah Almalki blunder in the Saudi defence. This was Lewandowski’s 77th goal for Poland.
