Jeff Magagane has not minced his words and has insisted that he will still be the South African featherweight champion by the time the festive season kicks in.

Magagane from Power Park in Soweto said this as his first title defence against Zolisa Batyi from the Eastern Cape is looming. The two boxers are going to square up in the main bout of a Limpopo Boxing Promotions tournament at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, this coming Friday.

“Let him come, I’m ready for him. I’m not rushing anywhere, he’s gonna find me waiting for him,” Magagane said.

Magagane dethroned Batyi’s stablemate Asanda Gingqi at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, two months ago. Magagane became the first boxer to defeat Gingqi when he dethroned him.

“One thing I know is that I’m going to remain the SA champion even after this fight. He’s coming here with nothing and will leave with nothing,” Magagane remarked.

Batyi, who is challenging for the SA featherweight for the second time this year, desperately needs to win this bout as he wants restore the dignity of his stable, which is led by boxing trainer Khangelani Jack. Batyi failed to wrestle the title away from Gingqi when they fought in East London six months ago.
