Ronald ‘King’ Malindi wants to Lord it over Mexican boxer Jorge Luis Orozco Mendoza when they fight against each other at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday afternoon.

Malindi, the unbeaten South African bantamweight king, clashes with the Mexican in a World Boxing Federation (WBF) title contest in the first ever boxing tournament to be held at the iconic 2010 World Cup venue. This tournament is promoted by Jacob Mnisi’s J4Joy Boxing Promotions.

“I have been training twice a day preparing for this fight. I am fitter than I have ever been before,” the 28-year-old Malindi boasted.

Malindi prepared for the fight with tough sparring sessions with SA welterweight champion Thulani Mbenge, former national junior-featherweight titlist Ayabonga Sonjica, Ricardo Malajika and Talent Baloyi.

“The sparring sessions were very tough. I even had a blue eye from those sparring sessions. I’m ready for this fight. I have beaten all my opponents here in South Africa and I want to win on Sunday. This Mexican needs to be on his best otherwise he won’t know what hit him,” Malindi, who is yet to lose in 19 fights, said.

The 26-year-old Mendoza from Guadalajara, Jalisco, in Mexico arrived in South Africa earlier this week. Mendoza has a professional record of 17 victories (11stoppages), three losses and two draws.
