Croatia advanced to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals after they beat Brazil 4-2 on penalties at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, on Friday evening.
This match was decided on spot kicks after the two teams had drawn 1-1 in two hours of football. It was goalless after 90 minutes.
The Croats made sure that they frustrated the five-time world champions in regulation time until Neymar Junior gave Brazil the lead in the 107th minute.
The 30-year-old Neymar Jr equalled Pele’s 77 goals when he scored for Brazil. Neymar Jr reached 77 goals in 124 games while Pele scored the same number in 91 matches.
Stubborn as ever, the Croats, who are the 2018 World Cup runners-up, equalised through Bruno Petkovic in the 117th minute and took the match to penalties.
