South African female match official Akhona Makhalima has been selected to officiate at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August.
Makhalima from Ngqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape is one of four referees from the African continent, who are going to officiate at the World Cup tournament.
The 34-year-old Makhalima is going to be joined by Salima Mukansanga from Rwanda, Morocco’s Bouchra Karboubi and Vincentia Amedome from Togo.
