Asemahle ‘Predator’ Wellem is likely to make the first defence of his South African super-middleweight title against Rowan Campbell in the first quarter of this year.
Initially, Wellem from Chintsa was set to square up against Tristan Truter, who is rated number one in the latest South African super-middleweight ratings.
But that fight is not going to happen anymore because Truter, who is trained by Colin Nathan, has decided to go down to the middleweight division.
Contacted for comment, Wellem’s manager Siya Zingelwa said he knew nothing about a proposed fight against fifth-rated Campbell.
Wellem, who is trained by Vusi Mtolo, has won all his five fights and has stopped three of his victims including Cowin Ray whom he dethroned in Menlyn, Pretoria, in October last year in only his fourth professional fight.
