Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has congratulated new president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe. The former Mamelodi Sundowns president was installed as CAF boss at the 43rd CAF General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday. Motsepe became the sole candidate for the CAF presidency after Ahmed Yahya from Mauritania, Ivorian Jacques Anouma and Augustin Senghor from Senegal withdrew from the race a week before the elections. “Congratulations to you Patrice. As I congratulate you on your historic victory, you have done South Africa proud for becoming the newly-elected unopposed president of the Confederation of African Football. This will go down in history as having produced the first South African to become CAF president and FIFA vice-president,” Motaung said. “You have indeed earned yourself stripes with this milestone and consolidated South African football as a force to be reckoned with in the world of football. Your achievement is the cherry on top after we hosted a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup albeit a decade ago.”
The Amakhosi boss has made a commitment to support Motsepe in his efforts to change the face of African football. “I wish to confirm our support with you in the endeavours of revamping African football to become one of the best and all the best of luck to you. I wish you a successful tenure in the office of CAF presidency and FIFA vice-president. God be with you in your journey, good luck,” Motaung concluded.
