Young fight promoter Nomfundo Malinga has left Boxing South Africa (BSA) officials and administrators with black eyes and bruised egos after she won the first round of her battle against the regulatory body on Saturday.
Nomfundo from Sugarboy Malinga Promotions took the fight to BSA challenging last weekend’s suspension of her promoter’s licence. Nomfundo, who is the daughter of legendary former World Boxing Council (WBC) super-middleweight champion Thulani ‘Sugar Boy’ Malinga, was suspended by BSA last weekend after the board of the boxing regulatory body said she failed to comply with the conditions attached to her promoter’s licence last year.
However, the South Gauteng High Court ruled in favour of Nomfundo lifting her precautionary suspension on Saturday and paving the way for her tournament to go ahead in Ladysmith on Sunday though that might not happen because of a number of issues related to organising a tournament.
Meanwhile, there are moves to petition the court to force BSA board members to pay from their own pockets in each an every case they lose.
