Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni is spending time preparing for his next fight training under American boxing trainer Luis Tapia in Las Vegas, United States.
The former South African junior-lightweight and lightweight champion is scheduled to meet American boxer Ladarius ‘Memphis’ Miller at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas, on Saturday, 13 May.
Thomas A Robinson Stadium is a multi-purpose facility and is the largest in the Bahamas. It is a 15 023-seater venue, which could be expanded to accommodate 23 000 people.
“I arrived here in the United States last weekend and will return home on Thursday next week. I’m being trained by Luis Tapia as I’m preparing for my next fight,” Ndongeni said.
KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni, who is going to earn $50 000 (almost R900 000) for the Miller fight, stopped Thai boxer Apinum Khongsong in Durban in November. The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight titlist is on a five-fight winning streak since his shock sixth round stoppage loss to current SA junior-welterweight champion Prince Dlomo in October 2020.
Meanwhile, Miller will become the second American boxer to fight against Ndongeni, who lost to Devin Haney in Shreveport in the US in January 2019.
Haney is now as unified World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’, International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) lightweight champion.
Memphis-born Miller lost to his compatriot Michel Rivera in a vacant IBF USBA lightweight clash in his last fight, which took place in October 2020.
