A dark cloud has descended on South African boxinG following the passing away of Bulelani Ndwayana from Makhanda in the Eastern Cape on Thursday morning. He was 56.
Popularly known as Stebho or Stekelina in sport circles, Ndwayana was a boxing trainer and he trained his son Mziwoxolo Ndwayana.
He led his son to South African welterweight glory when he stopped then champion Shaun Ness at the Portuguese Hall in Johannesburg in September 2018. Mziwoxolo lost the title to Thulani Mbenge in December 2020.
Ndwayana also led his son to victory against Anelisa Gungqisa in a World Boxing Federation (WBF) International welterweight title at the Lillian Ngoyi Halla in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha, in May 2016.
