Former South African featherweight champion Asanda ‘Dynamite’ Gingqi returned to Xaba Boxing Academy on Monday this week, less than a year after he bolted out together with young trainer Khangelani Jack.
Already, Gingqi is going to get his first fight since returning to Xaba Boxing Academy when he squares up against former SA junior-lightweight champion Sibusiso Zingange. Gingqi and Zingange are set to fight in an eight rounds junior-lightweight bout in a Xaba Promotions tournament scheduled for East London’s Orient Theatre on Friday, 31 March.
Mdantsane-born Gingqi lost his SA featherweight title when he was beaten by Jeff Magagane in September last year. On the other hand, Zingange held the national junior-lightweight crown from February last year until he was dethroned by Lunga Sitemela in May.
Gingqi has nine wins with six knockouts and a defeat while Benoni-based Zingange’s record stands at 17 victories (four stoppages) and six losses.
This fight is going to be on the undercard of the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight clash between Landile Ngxeke and Michael Mendoza from the Philippines.
