The South African Football Association (SAFA) has appointed former Banyana Banyana captain and team manager Lydia Monyepao as its first ever female chief executive officer.

Monyepao’s appointment followed after the confirmation of former SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe’s resignation on Saturday afternoon.

Pimville-born Monyepao, who has 20 Banyana caps and four goals, joined SAFA as its chief operations officer in July 2021.

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old Motlanthe resigned from SAFA on Friday evening following some disagreements with the football body’s hierarchy.
