With just over a month before he ushers world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga to battle in front of his home fans in East London, boxing trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan is impressed with what he has seen so far in his boxer’s preparations for his fight against Regie Suganob from the Philippines.
Nontshinga is going to put his International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight belt on the line when he defends his title against Suganob at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday, 16 June.
“We’re getting into it. It’s going very well. We are training very hard. His weight is really good. He has had good sparring so far. We will heat things up in a week or two,” award-winning Nathan remarked.
This is the 24-year-old Nontshinga’s first title defence since he had the red belt strapped around his waist following a split decision victory over previously unbeaten Mexican boxer Hector Flores in Hermosillo, Mexico, in September last year.
The fight is going to pit two unbeaten boxers with Nontshinga having stopped nine of his 11 victims while Suganob has won all his 13 fights and four of his victories were knockouts.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Suganob from Bohol in the Philippines set up a date with Nontshinga after he defeated his compatriot Mark Mendoza Vicelles in an elimination bout in February this year.
