The kind of confidence that Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu has ahead of his duel with Mexican boxer Rosendo Hugo Guarneros Gonzalez suggests that he will go for an early night this coming Saturday.
Cafu and Guarneros are scheduled to collide in a vacant IBF International junior-bantamweight title contest at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg.
“I’m on weight already after working very hard preparing for this fight. The only thing left for me to do now is to get inside the ring and get a knockout. My main aim is always to go for a knockout whenever I step inside the ring,” Cafu said.
The lad from Duncan Village, who is trained by Miniyakhe Sityata and Mnyamezeli Shosha, has admitted that Guarneros is a hard puncher. He, however, has insisted that he will still be too much for the Mexican.
“I’m fighting against a Mexican who has a punch. But he is not a smart boxer. He is a wild boxer who just goes out to hit his opponent. I’m going to outsmart him because I’m a smarter than him,” Cafu remarked.
Cafu goes to battle against Guarneros on the back of a split decision victory over experienced current South African flyweight champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke in a non-title bout at the Orient Theatre in East London last December.
The 24-year-old Cafu has registered eight wins (seven knockouts) and three draws while the 32-year-old Guarneros, a former IBF Intercontinental flyweight champion, has chalked up 20 victories (10 stoppages), five defeats and two draws.
Meanwhile, Cafu has revealed that he’s set to leave East London for Rustenburg via Johannesburg together with Sityata and Shosha on Tuesday in an effort to acclimatise at the North West town.
