South African football is under a cloud following the passing away of former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker on Saturday.
The 78-year-old Barker, who won trophies with the now defunct Durban City, Bush Bucks and AmaZulu, was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) in March this year.
“It is with profound sadness that the family of former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker announce his passing on Saturday, 10 June after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia,” a Barker family statement said.
Barker led Bafana to Africa Cup of Nations glory at home in 1996. He was in charge of Bafana when they qualified for their first ever FIFA World Cup finals, the 1998 France tournament, in 1997.
