Winning a South African title is all that Abdul-Aziz Kunert wants as he gets a second chance to finally win the national featherweight crown when he challenges champion Zolisa Batyi on Friday, 25 August.
Kunert will attempt to wrestle the SA featherweight title away from Batyi when they meet at the Bellville campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town.
“I believe in winning. I’m an uncrowned champion. I believe I will win the fight and be crowned champion,” the 29-year-old Cape Town-born Kunert remarked.
Kunert, who is trained by Michael Mouneimne in Cape Town, lost to then champion Asanda Gingqi when they fought for the same SA title in Johannesburg in September 2021.
“I have been training here in Cape Town preparing for this fight. I have been training with Old Bones (Mzuvukile Magwaza) and he’s helping me,” Kunert said.
Meanwhile, Kunert’s last fight was a points win over Amos Platsi at the Vibrant Sports Centre in Ottery, Cape Town, in November.
