South African boxers emerged victorious from their fights against overseas opponents at the Orlando Community Hall in Soweto on Sunday evening.

Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu laboured to a unanimous decision points victory over Filipino boxer Genisis Libranza in a vacant IBF International junior-bantamweight clash.

Though he won the bout, the talented Cafu from Duncan Village in East London didn’t look like his usual self during the fight. However, getting the nod from all three judges will give him some relief going forward.

Mpumelelo Tshabalala from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni outpointed Jesse Espinas from the Philippines in a vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental junior-flyweight title fight while Landile Ngxeke scored a stoppage win over Argentine boxer Luciano Baldor in a vacant WBO Global bantamweight title clash.

Meanwhile, Ayanda Gingqi defeated Sifiso Hlongwane to become the new South African junior-lightweight champion.
