Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe’s World Boxing Council (WBC) International female flyweight fight against Mexican boxer Alma Melissa Meraz Rodriguez has been postponed for the second time.
Initially, the South African and African Boxing Union (ABU) female flyweight champion was set to clash against Rodriguez at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday, 12 August. The fight was then postponed for two weeks after Hadebe picked up a bout of flu.
Now Hadebe, a winner of the Female Boxer of the Year award, will meet the Mexican on a yet-to-be confirmed date next month.
Meanwhile, the Mexican lass once challenged for the World Boxing Association (WBA) female junior-flyweight title, but lost the fight to her compatriot Maria Guadalupe Bautista Hernandez in September 2021.
The 30-year-old Meraz will go to the Hadebe fight with a professional record of 10 victories (two knockouts), three defeats and a draw.
