Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the final of the MTN8 following a 3-2 aggregate win over Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals.
After playing to a 1-1 draw in the first leg earlier this month, Sundowns beat Amakhosi 2-1 in the second leg played at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon.
The Brazilians raced to an early lead when Peter Shalulile netted in the first minute following a blunder by Amakhosi captain and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.
Amakhosi equalised through Ashley du Preez’s penalty in the 34th minute. Match referee Luxolo Badi awarded Chiefs the penalty after Sipho Mbule’s handball off Du Preez’s corner.
Shalulile restored the Tshwane giants’ lead when he headed past Petersen off Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s cross in referee’s added time.
